The Royal College of General Practitioners, at a Gala Awards Ceremony held at Cottrell Park Golf Club, St Nicholas, Cardiff, recently announced that Solva Surgery was to receive the highly prestigious RCGP Wales Practice Team of the Year Award, 2015

This is the first time that RCGP Wales has asked patients to nominate their practice for this award and Solva Surgery was one of five practices, across Wales, to be short listed, out of 91 nominations.

This Award recognises the positive impact on patients’ lives and outstanding level of care delivered by the whole healthcare team working within a practice including the practice nurses, community nurses, administration staff and the wide variety of other attached healthcare professionals.

RCGP Wales states: “High quality general practice is dependent on the entire practice team, who all have a major impact on how services are received by patients. Thus the ability to engage and work together as an effective team allows a practice to successfully provide a full range of services and excellent standards of care.“

Solva Surgery moved to its current location at Maes-yr-Eglwys in 1992 and remains a relatively small rural practice.

This award reflects all the hard work of the Primary Care Team at Solva Surgery, past and present. Well done Solva Surgery!

Friday 21st – Monday 24thAug

The festival, the like of which has never been held in Solva before, is nearly upon us. Everybody has been very supportive and funding for the event, £10,000, has largely come from the village itself –

The potential to raise a large sum of money for Solva projects is huge, thus helping to maintain a vibrant and sustainable community.

The festival has something for everyone so please come along and enjoy the weekend! Most of the events are located on the football fields. However,

the Treasure Hunt, Caws Crawl and the Jumble Trail do take around the whole village. The Green Monster open water swim around Greenscar begins and ends on Trinity Quay.

Want to de-clutter?

Then create a stall in your front garden or garage for the Edge Festival Jumble Trail, on Saturday 22nd Aug. £5.00 will advertise your location on a trail map.

Solva Bonfire and Fireworks Display Committee Meeting

Solva Bonfire and Fireworks Display Committee Meeting

Solva has historically provided an organised bonfire and fireworks event within the Lower Solva car park and picnic area. Not only has this event delivered a high quality display, but it has helped reduce anti-social behaviour associated with private bonfires and fireworks.

The event in 2014 was a challenge to deliver within budget. The cost for delivery was circa £1,200 offset by various fund raising events and a grant from Solva Community Council. Attendance at the event was approximately 350 people which provided additional income for local businesses.

There will be a Fireworks Display Committee meeting on

Monday 10th August at 6 pm in The Royal George.

If you would like to volunteer a little of your time for the 2015 display, please do come

along – we look forward to seeing you.

All welcome
