Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch 2015

Solva Community Council hosted their traditional Senior Citizen’s Christmas Luncheon on Saturday 5th December, in Solva Memorial Hall. Invited were members of the local community aged 60 or over, and over 50 people attended.

Chef Jono Voyce did everyone proud with a truly wonderful festive lunch served with all the trimmings. Brian Jobson and Clive Richards supplied the entertainment with an exceptional repertoire of popular music, and many people even got up and danced – a first for the Christmas Luncheon! Happy birthday was also sung to Betty Temple who was 97 on the day.

Thank you to all the volunteers for making everyone very welcome and making sure nothing was too much trouble. A special thanks also to Wendy Wright for organising the raffle, which made £137 – a much-needed contribution to the continuation of the event. Plus a huge thank you to all those who donated the prizes.

It was a very good start to the Christmas period and one, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, thank you to everyone for making the afternoon a great success.

Betty

Save Solva School update

Update by Save Solva School Action Group

Solva School Governors and SCC working for sustainable education in our community.

GOOD NEWS… the Councillors have voted for the PCC Director of Education’s proposal. SOLVA SCHOOL STAYS OPEN !!!

Solva School will stay open as part of a new 3-16 Voluntary Aided School formed by combining it with Dewi Sant and Bro Dewi schools.

Some important questions remain on how long Solva School will remain open.

Save Solva School Action Group is questioning the legal basis of PCC’s decision and taking action to seek assurances for the future of our village school.

Anyone can ask questions and raise concerns with PCC under the ‘Objections’ stage of the proceedings which ends on 30th December 2015. If you would like to see what the Action Group have had to say please go the savesolvaschool.co.uk site documents pages and look at Objections. For more info and to get in contact email Josh Phillips or Sue Denman at: www.savesolvaschool.co.uk or phone Sue on 07817 410782.
