Edge Festival Report

Over the weekend of 5th, 6th 7th August Solva hosted its second Edge Festival which nearly a thousand people attended. The Festival is the culmination of a whole year of Edge fundraising activities.
What were the highlights of this year’s festival? — take your pick. Rock bands, poets and writers, a Roald Dahl write-alike competition (won by Skye Bramley), cooking demonstrations, foods of various kinds (including insects!), the Real Ale festival, a superb sunflower competition (thanks Mike Williams), presentations (thanks Dr Lou Luddington), a bat walk, Music, Battle of the bands, Sports – football, rugby, a kayak expedition, Swim to the Edge and the grand raffle prize (won by Damian Davies). Wow!
So how does the community benefit? The festival itself made a profit of £2,500. The Edge Festival closes its yearly account with £10,000 in the bank. Shortly the committee will allocate its distribution of funding, with the Youth Club high on the list of candidates to receive a donation.
A Huge “Thank You Solva” for supporting the community festival, we will be back with our
first fundraiser in October.
