A487 at Newgale to close in 10 years?

On Wednesday 18th February, PCC’s Head of Highways and Construction, Darren Thomas and assistant engineer, Emyr Williams, addressed a packed Solva Memorial Hall regarding the future of Newgale’s pebble bank.

A Shore Line Management Plan has revealed significant change in the stability of this section of coastline due to climate change.

PCC’s current management / maintenance approach – to realign the pebble bank – will eventually become impossible.

Options for maintaining viable transport links to the peninsula were outlined, including a new road around Newgale or improving the C class road diversion used when Newgale is flooded.

You are invited both to give your opinion on the future of Newgale and to offer any suggestions for safeguarding the vital road “lifeline” onto the peninsula by the end of March. Either visit “Have Your Say” on PCC’s website or write to Emyr Williams, Assistant Engineer, Pembrokeshire County Council, County Hall, Haverfordwest SA61 1TP / emyr.williams@pembrokeshire.gov.uk
