Crissie Edwards, from Whitchurch, competed at the British Championships for Icelandic Horses in the middle of June and was very successful. On her own imported Icelandic Kvika she became British Champion in Youth Tolt and Intermediate 4-gait, and on the Solva-bred mare Fjola she won the Futurity Class for young horses. Solva has one of the largest populations of rare Icelandic horses in the country. They are the original Viking horse and although short in stature these strong hardy animals are bred to carry adults. In addition to the usual walk, trot and canter/gallop, Icelandics have two extra gaits – tolt and flying pace. Crissie is hoping to be selected for the British Team to compete at the World Championships in two years time, in Denmark.
