RIB challenge in Solva Harbour – Saturday 9th May

Solva Sailing Club recently had a fun-filled morning holding heats for the RYA Honda Rib Championship. Six young people showed their skill at controlling the powerboat through a slalom course, rescuing a ‘man overboard’ and doing a full reverse turn around a buoy.

One of the two instructors, Steve Probert and Gwilym Davies, was in the boat for each timed try, in order to penalise any errors. The top three fastest times were separated by only four seconds, and all of the young people showed skill and                 determination: well done to all. Aled Davies and Abi Voyce will now have further training before one of them represents Solva in the Wales final at Swansea on 13th June. Following the debrief and prize giving on shore, the instructors, timekeepers, course layers and shore supporters had impromptu time trials before taking up the buoys. Only eight seconds separated the top three times here, with Gwilym being fastest. Thanks to Window on Wales for supplying the prizes and Solva Sailboats for event support.
