New post – Following the success of our application for funding from the EU LEADER Programme, which funds new initiatives, we have been able to create a part time post of 16 hours a week, fixed term, for two years. Following interviews of applicants, Lesley Robertson-Steel was appointed. The post will include working on a preventative health care programme, supporting people who may consider the use of Direct payments as a means of getting
care more suited to their need and to liaise with carers – both domiciliary and private.
Friday Club will resume on 14 September and continue until 14 December. The 5 October session
will be at 7 pm in the evening session featuring Ann Hughes ‘Singing for Fun’ choirs to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis and Solva Care. There will also be readings of poetry from Solva Care members.
Our activities next term will include music: Country and Western & Ukulele along with craft, reminiscing, gentle movement, a beetle drive etc. On 9 November MamGu’s will be demonstrating and helping us make our own Welsh cakes. We have a special Christmas session on 14 December with St Lucia film as well as the Cathedral Hand Bells. You are welcome to come along for fun, companionship, and entertainment!
We are applying for funding from the Big Lottery and it would be helpful to have expressions of
support from members of the community. We have already done two surveys approaching local groups and societies for a response. If anyone would like to take part as an individual, giving an honest opinion – warts and all – about what they think of Solva Care, what we do, what else we could do and how we might improve, we would be glad to hear from you. Please email us or write to Solva Care, c/o Bruce Payne, Mount Farm, Solva SA62 6XL by 14 September.
