Project Coordinator. Solva Community Council will now recruit a Project Coordinator who will be

responsible for the setting up, and running of the scheme on a day to day basis. This exciting new

post will be vital to the success of the pilot project. If you want to be part of improving the care that

is provided and make a difference to older people’s lives in Solva, the Solva Care Committee

would like to hear from you.

Closing date for applications is 31st March 2015.

How to Apply:

Please contact Bruce Payne, Clerk to Solva Community Council at

or telephone 07890 987259 for a job description, application and an informal discussion about the

Community volunteers

Community volunteers will be the backbone of the pilot phase delivering a range of voluntary

services to help older people who may need it for any reason; practical or social. Voluntary

services do not include personal care or lifting. The role of volunteers may include:

  • Offering conversation and company, making hot drinks
  • Support to serve meals from Meals on Wheels & help with feeding
  • Cleaning
  • Gardening
  • Dog walking
  • Ironing
  • Hairdressing arrangements
  • Podiatrist arrangements
  • Helping with filling out forms
  • Providing information about essential services and social activities in

the Solva area such as:

  • Working at the Luncheon Club in Solva Memorial Hall, which is a venue for a range of

activities and events, that bring people together in varied and active ways.

  • Helping with shopping, pharmacy collections, hospital and GP appointments, etc.

The support services listed are not exhaustive. We will consider anything to improve your quality

of life.

Some older people within our community do find it difficult to get where they want to go,

particularly if they are without a car or find using the bus service a challenge. Transport is vital to

helping older people stay independent at home – and Solva Care will be there to help.

Volunteers will make a real difference to their lives. Volunteering roles will be designed to help community volunteers use the skills and knowledge they have, and to develop new ones. Knowledge or experience of caring is useful, but certainly not essential. A caring personality and the ability to listen and communicate well are of most value.

Solva Care will reimburse travel expenses such as fuel at 45p per mile

and any parking incurred during the course of volunteer duties.

What Next? …… Please volunteer, your Community Needs You!
