Solva Regatta 2019 Update

The sun shone on the 131st regatta. Having juggled three events during the summer holidays in previous years, and after a fair bit of consultation in the newsletter and around the pubs (where all the good decisions are made) the
committee decided to experiment – combining adult (inshore) and children’s regattas. This made for a really packed day, with plenty going on for spectators to watch and some great sportsmanship. Feedback has been favourable, but
the committee will be looking hard, over the next few meetings, at lessons to be learnt and improvements to be made. We’d welcome your comments – find us on Facebook Solva Regatta and Raft Race page.
Victor Ludorum winners were (pictured): Joe Roulston (child), Hattie Roulston (youth) and Oliver Jones (adult). Congratulations to all who took part.
Other highlights included the rowing races and in particular the closely fought single oared sculling. Witty commentary was provided by Mike Williams and Peter Wilde, who entertained the crowd while simultaneously managing to get competitors to the right areas – no mean feat.
Thanks to our main sponsors: Webzer, Hedley Asset Management and GMF Motors; thanks too for generous support from local businesses and individuals. Thanks to Paddle West for the hire of boats. Our volunteer water safety cover was enhanced by Porthmawr Surf Lifesaving. First aid cover was provided by Pegasus, who thankfully could spend the day watching proceedings, while Louise at Café on The Quay catered for our thirst and hunger. Thank you. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and we are very grateful for your support.
