Solva Sailing Club and Solva Regatta Winter Talk was held in the Royal George; many
thanks to Barry and Mary for their hospitality. The talk was very well attended and four guests
entertained and informed the audience. Dave Knowler talked about his trip around the harbours of
Wales and the Bristol Channel. Piers Beckett spoke of his trip last summer to Douananez in France.
During the interval, there was a nautical themed quiz, the winners being Mike and Penny Williams,
after a tie break question. The next speaker was Micky Beckett, who is a member of the British
Sailing Team. The audience was in awe of his dedication and talent and wish him all the very best for
the coming racing season. The Solva Log was awarded to the next speaker, Ivor Walker. This trophy,
first presented to the sailing Club in the 80s by Peter Noott is for the
longest trip out of Solva Harbour, Ivor clocked-up over 800 miles! He
illustrated his talk with some beautiful photos and was very informative
about the lock systems of the Scottish canals. Many thanks to our
speakers, all those who donated raffle prizes and all who attended.
