Changes to waste & recycling centres from 3 June 2019

When visiting the Waste & Recycling Centres (WRCs):
All bagged materials that you bring to the WRCs will be opened and checked to show our team that they do not contain recycling before it can be placed in the general waste skip. You can make your visit easier by sorting recyclable from non-recyclable materials at home so that you can place items in the correct containers. Only non-recyclable items will be allowed in the general waste skip. The items as illustrated below can be recycled at our WRC’s so please keep them out of your general waste bag:

Did you know that over 40% of waste thrown in the general waste container at our WRCs could have been either recycled or reused?
Pembrokeshire Council needs to increase the amount that we recycle to meet Welsh Government targets. If we miss these targets, we will be fined. We currently recycle 60% of our waste, but we need to recycle 64% by next year and 70% by 2024/25. These improvements will help meet those demands and improve our environment.

St Davids Church – Whitchurch

It has been brought to the attention of SCC that the church is in a sad state of disrepair, in particular the roof, and the building suffers from damp, has no heating, electricity or toilets. It should be a valued community asset, used not only for normal church services but also for community events such as concerts,
historic talks etc. Much work and money is needed to transform the church into a warm and welcoming place, but the initial challenge is to secure funds for general repairs. The SCC Chair is in the process of contacting the Diocesan Office to raise concerns about the decaying state of the church and request that immediate repair funds be allocated. If you have the same concerns, please write to the Diocesan Office, Abergwili, Carmarthen SA31 2JG in support of saving St Davids Church.

New Wildlife Art Gallery & Print Service in Solva

A story that began in Africa twenty years ago reached fruition last month in Solva with the opening of a new wildlife art gallery called Rookwood at Llanunwas, and an exhibition of paintings.
Dr Rob Davies who has dedicated much of his life to conservation of wildlife in Africa and Wales set out to illustrate all of the birds of prey in Africa for a field guide with friend and co-author American Bill Clark. The original plates for the book, prints and signed copies of “African Raptors” are now on show and on sale at Rookwood Gallery. The gallery is also showing the work of other artists and photographers and the studio has state of the art camera, editing and printing services for reproductions of fine art and photographs. The gallery is open daily between 10am and 3pm, just follow the signs on the left as you leave Solva on the
St Davids road. www.rookwoodstudios.com
