Ahead of our September meeting, a few members very much enjoyed a visit with lunch and a walk at the Cilgerran Wildlife Centre. Jilly Missen was thanked for such a well-organised outing and the rain certainly didn’t dampen our spirits!
Our meeting was held in the Hall as usual and, amongst items discussed, were various dates for PFWI events including the Annual Council Meeting on Saturday 23 November and a Miscellany Craft Day on Saturday 9th and Friday 15 November. It had been agreed that our monthly raffle would be for the patchwork quilt which was on show, it was made by Pembrokeshire members to raise funds in order to revamp the Pembrokeshire room at Denman College. Mary Haughton, our President, asked members to consider joining the committee to ensure continuation of Solva WI – the election happens at the Annual Meeting in November which starts at 1pm with a soup lunch.
The “Flower of the Month” was won by Vee Hopkins. After tea, we enjoyed a trio of “fun activities” including a quiz with answers starting with the letters WI, a Bug Bingo and a Dragon Drive.
The winner of the Jean Platt Trophy was Jenny Jones. Mary Haughton was thanked for providing such an entertaining “competition”. Our Christmas Dinner is booked for Thursday 5 December at the “Cambrian Inn” in lower Solva.
The next meeting is on Thursday 10 October when Tracy Olin will talk on the work of PATCH.
